When a Tunnel Can’t Stop: 1,075 kWh Mobile Power Keeps Grouting Crews Running
No road-closure permits, no diesel, no interruption — how a mobile storage solution held a 500 kW continuous load for a tunnelling project on a compressed schedule.
Power could not wait
The tunnelling programme was compressed and its grouting equipment needed immediate, continuous power. A delay or interruption would directly affect the project schedule.
Conventional options were blocked
- A mains extension required road occupation and lengthy permits
- Diesel generation conflicted with cost, noise and emissions constraints near residents
The hard operating constraint
The stable operating load was 500 kW. Each grouting cycle ran for 6–7 hours and could not tolerate an interruption longer than about 15 minutes without risking set grout, damaged equipment and rework.
Mobile storage sized to the duty
Two 1,075 kWh units operated in parallel for the active load, with two matching units configured as on-load standby.
Seamless transfer
Rotation and standby switch-in were organised without interrupting supply, matching the grouting equipment’s requirement for stable, fluctuation-free power.
